These are the top 106 books most often marked as "unread" by LibraryThing‚Äôs users. As in, they sit on the shelf to make you look smart or well-rounded. Bold the ones you've read, and italicize the ones you own but have not read. I am either well-intentioned, or a poser, when it comes to reading. )

In other news, as [livejournal.com profile] cthulhia suggested, best of luck to those celebrating May Day in the Jonathan Coulton way. ;)

As [livejournal.com profile] lyonesse says so well:

if you've got anything to confess wrt me, it'll be a lot more wholesome if you just do it in this journal rather than as part of somebody else's meme. comments are screened, anonymous is on, and i really don't expect this to generate any traffic. (you may feel free to express dislike, resentment, affection for my dog cats, loathing of candy hearts, or really anything; it doesn't have to be the secret hots for me, either.)

Comment screening is on. If you respond anonymously, my journal default screens it anyway, so go to town. Yes, even if you're mad at me. I'd rather hear it than not know.

I suspect I won't un-screen, so I'll be the only person who knows if this entry is entirely empty of comments. ;)

Apparently, I'm very immature. I took this quiz to tell me so.

Real Age: 17.3
Average Life Expectancy: 74
My Life Expectancy: 84.7

I lost points on having a reasonable amount of stress in my life, but the way I take care of myself is apparently good. Being happily married helps, too. :)

Via [livejournal.com profile] bbbsg, from the [livejournal.com profile] altfriday5:

1. Schmoop about a friend, past or present.

[livejournal.com profile] desert_born has quietly and sneaky-like become one of my best friends. We spend a lot of time encouraging and supporting each other, whether it's at the gym or avoiding the gym, talking about housing decisions or, frankly, gossipping about our lives and those whose lives touch ours. She's always been really easy-going and understanding about whatever changes I'm making in my life, which I'm particularly grateful for because I've been making a number of changes lately. Also, I love that we've been through an actual friends-fight that had me all wrought up and tension-ful, years ago, and yet we both made the conscious choice that our friendship was more important than our Principles on the issue. We've recovered from that fight so well that I don't actually remember what the resolution was, whether we went with her way or mine. And that suits me just fine. :)

2. Schmoop about a family member.

I don't talk about my Mom often enough. I joke about how she's grateful that I "rediscovered monotheism and married a man!" But the truth is much more complicated. We don't agree on a lot of things, particularly with how to live our lives and find happiness. I think she still, secretly, hopes I'll go back to Jesus someday. But we do really love each other, and again, we make the conscious decision that our relationship is more important than winning an argument on Principles. So we've developed a really great friendship, and that makes me really happy.

3. Schmoop about a room- or housemate, past, present, or fantasy (if you've never had one).

When [livejournal.com profile] crazybone moved in, I didn't know what to think. Here was some guy I'd known for years but never known well, who was moving in with us after living for years with his mother. How badly that could go! But he's always been the height of consideration, he hardly ever burns his cooking anymore (in fact, I probably burn things more often than he does, lately). And he's become a good friend, one who knows me well enough to say, hey, are you okay? and to hug me when the answer is, no, not really. Plus he bugs me to get the utility bills totalled so he can give me money -- how great is that? ;)

4. Schmoop about a lover/boyfriend/girlfriend/partner/whatever-you-call-it, past, present, or fantasy (if you've never had one).

[livejournal.com profile] hakamadare has ridden out many a storm with me, despite his fear of troubled waters. He has become my harbor, but only up until the point where I need to go out there and ride the waves again. He has ... well, this metaphor can be beaten to death, but the point is that he's always there to be what I need, to support me and love me and make my life a better experience. I don't know what I'd do without him. We adventure together, Steve and I, and there's no one else I'd rather go on expotitions with.

5. Schmoop about yourself.

I've done a lot of thinking and processing and growing, and I think that's the best thing there is to make progress on.

6. Schmoop about The altfriday5 Questioner. (No, just kidding. Mostly.)

I have no idea who writes these things. :P

Heh. The LJ mojo, as many have noted, is displaying an icky image and now revealing the data they collected in the surveys.

I never posted my results of this meme because I did it out of curiousity to see what the meme was and how it worked. And because I did it out of curiousity, I filled it out by checking off the *percentage* of my flist I've dated in the past, not the actual people (modulo the people I have dated who were able to be checked off), because, hey, my own husband's name wasn't on the list of check-off-able names! So, amusingly, the meme is now displaying the "dirty little secret" that I've dated people I haven't actually dated.

I'm sorry, but I amuse myself sometimes. ;)

Randomly list your top 10 favorite artists without looking at the quiz below...
1 Edie Carey
2 Anne Heaton
3 Ani DiFranco
4 Emm Gryner
5 Eddie From Ohio
6 Ellis
7 Rachael Sage
8 Groovelily
9 We're About 9
10 Richard Shindell

Music quiz! How can I resist? )

What's interesting to me is that I decided not to list Moxy Fruvous or DaVinci's Notebook, even though they're both dear to my heart, because they're no longer together. Their breaking up has moved them down on my list of favorite performers, because concerts are how I become a fan of most musicians. I guess I like that personal connection. Likewise, I think Paul & Storm and Jonathan Coulton are gaining ground since I saw them live a few months ago, and I'm hopefully seeing them again this month.

1. Grab the nearest book. (Don't you dare dig for that "cool" or "intellectual" book in your closet! I know you were thinking about it! Just pick up whatever is closest.)
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the next 3 sentences on your blog along with these instructions.

"He says I mustn't -- not yet -- see his face or know his name. I'm forbidden to bring any light into his -- our -- chamber."

Then she looked up, and as our eyes met for a moment I saw in hers unspeakable joy.

This is from one of my all-time favorite books, Till We Have Faces by CS Lewis. It's a retelling of the Psyche-Eros myth, from the evil stepsister's perspective. It breaks my heart every time, and I love it well. Steve and I recently started reading it aloud to one another.

This book, like much of Lewis' writing, lives and breathes for me. Unlike Narnia, however, it has none of that pesky Xtian moralizing and theme. If anything, it's a pagan-oriented book. Not as good for children, though, as Narnia.

This entry is still providing me with much amusement. Join in, if you haven't already!

Also? I realize I need an icon from this comic. The part where Josie grabs her own boobs to prove she's a girl. [livejournal.com profile] quem98, I'll be your best friend ... ? *grin*

This is wicked fun. As Rose says, So much so, in fact, that I'm going to steal it: "In comments to this post, talk with your userpics, and only your userpics. Post early, post often, and respond to whomever you want. Remember: the right picture is worth a thousand words. And occasionally, a guffaw."

Post a "." in the talk box, so LJ will let you post the pic, but the point is to talk with your icons. :)
