Randomly list your top 10 favorite artists without looking at the quiz below...
1 Edie Carey
2 Anne Heaton
3 Ani DiFranco
4 Emm Gryner
5 Eddie From Ohio
6 Ellis
7 Rachael Sage
8 Groovelily
9 We're About 9
10 Richard Shindell

What is your favorite song by 9:
Oof, do I have to pick one? "Writing Again" and "Weight of the Ocean" are the ones I've memorized multiple versions (live and studio) of, but "For One More" and "Another Love Song" and "Born Again" are also high on my list. WA9 are just fabulous. :)

What was the first song you heard by 6:
Hmm. [livejournal.com profile] hope_persists would probably know this, because it was at Falconridge last year. Oh, no, wait, it was "Princes and Princesses" because [livejournal.com profile] monkeygod put it on a mix a couple of years ago. I lost the liner notes, so I didn't know who was on the disc until recently.

What is your favorite song by 7:
"Bravedancing," hands down. I love a lot of Rachael Sage songs, but that one is my "I'm going to make it, I'm going to be awesome, and I'm going to live my life to the fullest" song that I sing at the top of my lungs on a weekly basis.

How did you get into 10:
Falconridge, most likely. I didn't really become a fan of Richard Shindell, though, until [livejournal.com profile] hakamadare became obsessed with him. In the process of getting Richard to sign a CD (which involved him searching his truck while we waited and talked with his daughter), he became a real person to me, and his music became more appealing after that.

What is your favorite song by 5:
"Oh My Brother" makes me cry every time I see them sing it live. But "Stupid American" makes me laugh every time. I guess I've known "Oh My Brother" longer, so it's closer to my heart, but maybe I also just have a weakness for sad songs.

How long have you been listening to 1:
Hmm. I think I met Edie in 2000, probably with [livejournal.com profile] monkeygod, but I didn't become a really huge fan until those LFNY Bentley shows in winter/spring of 2002. That was an *awesome* concert series.

What is your favorite song by 4:
"Acid" has always been a favorite of mine because it reminds me of [livejournal.com profile] ceelove and [livejournal.com profile] marmota, back when they dated lo these many years ago, which is when I started listening to Emm. However, Emm's cover of "Pour Some Sugar on Me" is to *die* for. :P

Have you seen 3 live:
There's no one on this list I haven't seen live! I've probably seen Ani live the least, though, because she tends to be expensive. I've seen her a few times at Falconridge, a few times at the Orpheum, and once in NH, I think at UNH.

What is your favorite song by 1:
Ooooh. "Hollywood Ending" is my favorite song off the new album, because it tears my heart out every time. However, I think "Disco Ball Heart" is my all-time favorite of Edie's songs. It makes me bounce happily in my seat. :)

Do you have any merchandise by 9:
All of their CDs, a button, and they've promised to send me a sweatshirt when they make more. I don't tend to go for much merch unless it's really fabulous, though, so I don't have merch from most of these artists (other than the discs).

What is your favorite song by 2:
"Bellyside" and "Your Heart is For Breaking." I guess I'm just incapable of having only *one* favorite song.

Which song makes you sad by 5:
"This is Me" and "Oh My Brother" both make me sad.

What is your favorite song by 3:
Gah! Favorite Ani song? You must be joking! I can make an entire set list of my favorite Ani songs.

Out of Habit, Pale Purple, Buildings and Bridges, Fixing Her Hair, Swim, Superhero, Gravel, Pick Yer Nose, Both Hands, Shy, 32 Flavors, Little Plastic Castle, Untouchable Face, Out of Range, Not a Pretty Girl, Falling is Like This, Your Next Bold Move

List all of the band members in 4:
Emm has played with other folks, notably that Sebastian guy with the bass, but she's the important one. :P

What is your favorite song by 8:
"Live Through This (Are We There Yet?)" and "No Room in Your Bag," both songs of survival and determination.

What do you NOT like about 7:
Actually, the few times I've seen Rachael live, she's been very variable as a performer. I saw her on one particularly off night when her singing was somewhat wretched and she had no interest in talking to the fans after the show. That was disappointing, because she doesn't tour very often, so I'd looked forward to chatting. But I've also seen her put in a really stellar performance at Passim.

What is your favorite song by 6:
Right now, I'm really obsessed with "Grand Exit," which is a song Ellis wrote to her friend Annette who was dying of cancer. However, I also really love "Princes and Princesses" and "Hurricane." "Hurricane" is a great description of the whirlwind I become when falling in love.

Have you visited 1’s official website:
Of course. She's redesigned it with every new album. The current version is okay. I usually get my tour info from Edie's emails, though, so I don't need to use the website unless I need to quote lyrics and am not sure I've memorized them right or something.

What is your favorite song by 10:
Heh. There was the time [livejournal.com profile] hakamadare and I requested "Summer Wind, Cotton Dress" to be played as a wedding present. :P I really do love that song, and Richard had already played "Reunion Hill" and "Nora." I guess he doesn't really have happy-couple songs, other than "Cancion Sencilla," which he had also already played that night.

Which of these bands have you added on your Myspace:
*laugh* I don't actually use Myspace that much, so I don't know. I'm pretty sure Ellis has, and probably at least a couple others.

What's interesting to me is that I decided not to list Moxy Fruvous or DaVinci's Notebook, even though they're both dear to my heart, because they're no longer together. Their breaking up has moved them down on my list of favorite performers, because concerts are how I become a fan of most musicians. I guess I like that personal connection. Likewise, I think Paul & Storm and Jonathan Coulton are gaining ground since I saw them live a few months ago, and I'm hopefully seeing them again this month.

Wow! My husband used to work with Rachael Sage in the studio. I never heard of her until my husband told me about her.
